I want to major in Physical Geography, but I stink at Math?

Tall Cloud asked:

I’ve always loved Geography, and have wanted to pursue it as a career. My main interest in Geography is Physical Geography, which deals with Geomorphology, Climatology, Oceanography, Landscape Bio-geography, and Meteorology. I was told by my academic advisor when I declared my major in Physical Geography that it was reccommended that I take extra courses in either Geology (my minor), Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Mathematics. Admittedly, I have a History/English geared brain as opposed to a Mathematical/Scientific brain. However, I have always done especially well in Science, while I’m absolutely abysmal at Math. I do well in Chemistry, and I understand Conceptual Physics as well as other disciplines of Science pretty well. I had to drop my College Algebra class because I couldn’t keep up, and dug myself in a mental hole. I did terrible in High School, and I took the bare minimum of Math courses, and even I barely passed those. Now, the only two Math courses I’m required to take for a Physical Geography degree are College Algebra, and Quantitative Methods (Statistics). I’ve been told that Statistics is relatively easy, and it’s basically just number crunching as opposed to Algebra where it’s like a mini-sudoku puzzle and you have to figure out the question to figure out the problem. I absolutely despise arithmetic. I also understand that Climatologists, and Meteorologists use extensive Math to a certain degree, such as Trigonometry (which I haven’t even seen!). I’m not required to do anything but take College Algebra and Quantitative Methods though, so Trig is completely optional, but just reccommended for that field. My main interest is in Geomorphology, but I’m required to take courses in Climatology, Meteorology, Landscape Biogeography, and Oceanography as well. I understand that you need to follow your passion, but I’m not going to risk wasting my money as well as my parents’ money on something I will struggle in.

Should I stick with it, and just try and get through the Math courses, or should I pick another major that better suits my skillset?

Thanks.
