How do you solve a sudoku puzzle?

easy sudoku
Julia P asked:

I love doing sudoku but I can never make the puzzle work out in the end. I’ve started like 10 and haven’t been able to finish them. Is there a secret to solving them? Or just an easy way to figure them out? Because I would really love to know how to do them the right way. Thanks! :)

It has nothing to do with math. You try to list all the numbers 1 – 9 in rows and columns without putting two of the same number in any column or row.

you can only have one of each number 1-9 in each horizontal row, vertical column, and 3×3 box. it’s really not that hard, easy to learn, and very addictive.

Most sudoku puzzles have a rating for difficulty. The ones in the paper have stars and some books have rating like karate belts. I definitely needed to start with the easy ones until I developed my own strategies and record keeping techniques. Good luck, they’re fun once you get the hang of them and you feel really good when you go up a difficulty level. And only do them in pencil.

you need to get1-9 in every box and in every column.
and you can’t put the same number in any row or column twice.
    hope this helps!

It’s a logic puzzle, not a math puzzle (you could use letters instead of numbers). Only fill in something if you’ve proven that is the only possibility for the box. Start with 4×4′s or 6×6′s until you get the hang of it.

Rules: No repeats in any row or column (use each once).
No repeats in any bolded block (use each once).

Below: Many strategy pages, and two pages of easier, smaller sudokus.
